A Sunshine Coast Retreat Centre in the Forest of Roberts Creek

The Linwood House Guide, The Sunshine Coast Guide

By Bailey Creative

When people picture the Sunshine Coast, they imagine quiet beaches, towering cedars, and the feeling of being a world away from the city — while only a 40-minute ferry ride from West Vancouver. Linwood House sits in the middle of that picture: a private retreat centre on five forested acres on the upper side of Roberts Creek, 15 minutes from the Langdale ferry and equally close to Gibsons and
Sechelt.

Guests have called the setting a “forest cathedral.” A short walk from the property leads to trails with 600-year-old trees, ocean vistas, and a waterfall; a short drive reaches the beach and the village heart of Roberts Creek.

The property offers 11 bedrooms and 15 beds across three connected spaces — the Retreat Centre, the self-contained Garden Suite, and the post-and-beam Carriage House — which lets it adapt to very different kinds of gatherings. Here’s how groups typically use it.

Linwood House retreat grounds

A Retreat Venue Built for Facilitators

Most weeks of the year, Linwood House operates as exactly what it was designed to be: a retreat centre for yoga teachers, wellness practitioners, meditation groups, and independent facilitators across BC and the Pacific Northwest.

The setup. Organizers reserve the Retreat Centre or the full property, giving their group exclusive use of the bedrooms, common spaces, gardens, and on-site forest trails — complete privacy, no outside visitors, no distractions.

The practice space. At the heart of the Retreat Centre is a 1,200 sq ft yoga and meditation studio with natural light and forest views — a purpose-built room for movement, meditation, and group sessions, not a repurposed living room. The 700 sq ft Great Room, with vaulted ceilings and forest on three sides, hosts shared meals, circles, and evening gatherings.

The rhythm. The property naturally supports the arc of a retreat day: early walks through the woods, morning sessions in the studio, quiet afternoons in the gardens, and evenings around the outdoor fire pit. The self-contained Garden Suite — included with every Retreat Centre booking — gives the facilitator a private space to rest and prepare, a little apart from participants.

Meals. Many groups work with our trusted local caterers for full-service meals, while self-catering groups are well served by the Carriage House’s full kitchen and the Retreat Centre’s kitchenette. Arrangements for our professional catering kitchen can be made for groups with a designated cook.

Corporate Retreats and Team Offsites on the Sunshine Coast

When a team needs to step out of the office to think clearly — strategy sessions, annual planning, leadership offsites, team rebuilding — Linwood House offers something a hotel meeting room can’t: five private acres of forest, one ferry ride from Vancouver.

The setup. A full-property buyout gives your team every bedroom, the Great Room for collective sessions, and the studio as a second large breakout space. Smaller working groups find quiet corners in the Carriage House, on the cedar decks, or in the gardens.

The effect. Removing a team from daily operations and placing them in a quiet natural environment changes the quality of the conversation. Teams regularly compress weeks of planning into two or three focused days and leave with a clear roadmap — plus the kind of shared experience around the fire pit that no boardroom produces.

The logistics. We’re 15 minutes from the Langdale ferry, with straightforward access from downtown Vancouver and YVR. Catering, sauna access, and guided local activities — hiking, kayaking, boat tours, mountain biking — can all be arranged.

Writing Retreats, Arts Groups, and Creative Gatherings

Writers’ circles, artist groups, podcasters, and workshop leaders return to Linwood House year after year for one thing above all: genuine quiet.

The Great Room offers comfortable workshop seating and natural light for group sessions; the gardens, decks, and Carriage House provide solitary corners for independent work. Days balance naturally between collective time and deep focus, and the forested setting has a way of getting people unstuck. For groups that gather annually, our returning-group rates make Linwood House an easy tradition to keep.

Family Reunions, Milestone Celebrations, and Intimate Weddings

For gatherings too personal for a commercial venue — milestone birthdays, anniversaries, multi-generational reunions, and intimate forest weddings — Linwood House becomes a private family basecamp.

The setup. A full-property buyout sleeps your group across the three spaces: grandparents in the quiet of the Garden Suite, families spread through the Retreat Centre, cousins bunking in the Carriage House loft. Everyone under one canopy of cedars, with no one driving to a hotel at the end of the night.

The celebration. The extensive lawns and gardens host outdoor dinners, garden parties, and ceremonies among the trees, with local Sunshine Coast caterers handling the meals. The natural backdrop of cedars and gardens does most of the decorating for you. On-site accommodation turns a single celebration into a relaxed multi-day gathering — guests arrive informally the night before, celebrate across the grounds the next day, and share a quiet breakfast together before heading home.

We host a limited number of weddings each year to protect the quiet our retreat groups come for — which is exactly what makes a Linwood House wedding feel the way it does.
